95 LWB RRC - lights stuck in High Beam mode

Hi

My lights are stuck in high beam mode. If i turn on the head lights they are stuck in high beam, if i pull back on the lever it doesnt turn the high beams off.

When I parked last night I was not useing the high beams, It rained over night and now they are stuck.

is there a fuse? or could the blub be bad. Im out of town about 6 hours drive from home lol

ok after about an hour of driving today i lost low and high beams

so i pulled the fuses (2 for high beam and 2 for low beam) and all 4 were fine

i then went to check the bulbs and found that the connectors had a bunch of green oxidation on them. i used some electronics cleaner spray and a small scraper to clean them up, now lights are good to go in both low and high

Had the same problem with my 95 RRC. I also found the connection at the headlamp bulbs had green oxidation. I had to replace both the connectors and cleaned the bulb contacts.


For some reason when the connections get bad the high beam icon will come on but the headlights will not work.

ok so both lights went out again (while it was night and i was far from home)

i checked the fuses and they were fine so i checked the connection to the headlight and the connector was totally melted on one side

i discoected that side (so that the headlight had only 2 wires instead of three) and now both lights worked fine just one very dimly.

Any ideas on what could be cuaseing the melting but not blowing the fuse?

if the connector looks like this |-| that is supposed to look like two side connectors and a top connector, then the one that is melted is the right one if you are facing the rover from the outside looking at the head lights

so it would be the "o" that is the melted one |-o

yeah i hope that makes sense

A bad connection make heat and melts the plastic..

Replace both connectors and the the head light bulbs and put some d-greese on them.

if you changed the connectors and hooked them up wrong you could be grounding out = same thing I did once, and it was annoying.

i havent changed out the connector yet, but i need to do it

anyone parting out a classic and have the connector at the bulb with the wire back to the three prong connector to spare, i'd rather avoid splicing if possible

ok so last night they went out again. This morning i was checking at the passenger side connector melted in the same place as the drivers side had melted. (of the three prongs its the vertical one on the drivers side)

I tested the volatage and both side (vertical) prongs are getting just under 12v with the top (horizontal) prong being the ground.

any ideas what would cause both sides to melt in the exact place?

today I am replacing the connectors (if i can find some) and the bulbs although the bulbs seem to work fine (when they work lol)

If there is a bad ground, the power side will "leak" across the domant connect to find a good ground. Thus the all of connectors would be burned.
