When each person registers, there is no option for choosing where they live. However, there is an option in each users CP (control panel) that they can list their "location". I don't think the search engine can't look in this field but, will check on this. Most often people put in faux locations or list something like "somewhere stuck in the mud".

Anther option is a map! What you could do is, rallye to start a new thread and get all the members to join in a http://www.frappr.com/

### EDIT ###

I added the "Search" tool to look through members listing.

Members List > Search Members (in upper right corner below page listings) > Advanced Search > Location (type in "Vermont" or where ever).

This will search on the location each member has listed in his or her's CP. So, if they typed in "somewhere stuck in the mud" or "Northern Vermont" you will need to search for "mud" or "northern" or "Vermont" or in your case, "Pa.".

Sly Mandatory address?

Why not make it mandatory to enter at least a STATE or COUNTRY as an address, or a REGION even, in the User Profile/avatar/etc.
So many times, people without addresses ask questions that require the person answering to KNOW that info. If someone asks a 'regionally sensitive' question without including that info.....most folks won't start scrounging to find out where they live, much less ask them. Therefore, question goes unanswered. If someone has extreme privacy issues, I guess they shouldn't post a question that requires the info..........

Thank you for the suggestion, I'll look into this feature *if* it can be a required field.

There is no way to have the location a required without custom programming. However, location and more member details are now shown on the members list page and can be searched.
