[Andrew and Karen Taylor, London, England, shared the beginnings of their around the world tour in a recent issue of The Rovers North News. With their trusty ’08 Defender 130 they’ve traveled across the US and Canada. Here’s the latest installment of their travels. –ed]

Hello US of A. After months of preparation, we finally arrived to start the next step in our adventure.

We took our UK registered 2008 Land Rover 130” to the USA and Canada so we could experience the diversity of the scenery that is on offer over here. The Land Rover proved to be the natural choice for the trip due to the large number of unpaved, logging and trail roads that cross the countryside, all of which are generally accessible to the public. Given the Land Rover would be our only transport and accommodation, we chose to avoid extreme off-roading. (…)

LAND ROVER UK SALES UP FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE MONTH

Land Rover’s UK sales for October 2009 have risen for the third consecutive month in a row.

Land Rover sold a total of 2855 units in October 2009 and 28,042 year to date. This is 89% better than October 2008. All of the models saw a rise in sales with Defender up 25%, Freelander 2 up 55%, Discovery up 112%, Range Rover Sport up 210% and Range Rover up 43%.

John Edwards, managing director, Land Rover UK commented: “It’s great to see the market up over 30% and we’re excited to achieve an 89% rise in October versus last year. It demonstrates what an outstanding success the new 2010 model year vehicles have been and proves the importance of having new products in an ever competitive market.”

Land Rover currently sells in over 170 markets around the world. The UK is currently Land Rover’s largest market.

A Defender 110 can make a great traveling companion and mobile home. While trekking across the USA in 2007, this UK traveler stopped in for some important repairs to his Defender 110. A stop in Vermont at Rovers North made sure this happened. After all was complete, the UK gentleman and his Defender 110 were on their merry way.

Going for Gold in the Challenge of a Lifetime

Victoria Pendleton, Olympic gold medallist swapped the track for the field this weekend as she supported competitors at the UK National Selections of the Land Rover G4 Challenge.
Victoria provided motivational guidance to 60 competitors as they were put through their paces in a gruelling 3-day selection at Eastnor Castle, Herefordshire - where the top four were selected to represent the UK at the next selections stage.
The UK finalists - top two men and two women - Bruce Duncan, Andrew Grieve, Sarah Davies and Maria Leijerstam battled it out in a series of physical, mental and driving activities to secure their place at the Land Rover G4 Challenge International Selections. (…)
